Double Elimination Draw Made

The draw for the Double Elimination Group Stage of the 2019 BetVictor World Championship of Ping Pong has been made, with defending champion Wang Shibo of China to get the tournament underway on the TV table in Group A.

Shibo will be against a Last Chance qualifier and is joined in Group A by fans’ favourite Alexander Flemming of Germany, who will play William Maybanks (Hungary) in his opening match. Vladislav Kutsenko (Russia) faces female wildcard Egle Adomelyte of Lithuania and Poland’s Radoslaw Malinowski takes on Australia’s Brian Berry in the fourth match on the TV Table.

Action in Group B on the second feature table is headed by last year’s runner-up Huang Jungang (China) and also features Russia’s three-time World Champion Maxim Shmyrev. Home favourite Chris Doran (England) is the seeded player in Group C while popular Scottish star Gavin Rumgay is in Group D, where China’s Liang Xue is the seed.

Poland’s Filip Szymanski heads Group E, which also features leading Chinese female hardbat player Chen Jie. Former World Champion Andrew Baggaley (England) is the Group F seed, in Group G it’s Tomas Sadilek (Czech Republic) and the final seeded player is 2017 tournament winner Yan Weihao (China).

There are still four spots remaining in the BetVictor World Championship of Ping Pong, to be awarded to players who come through the two Last Chance qualifying events taking place at Ellenborough Table Tennis Club in Enfield on Sunday, January 20 and Thursday, January 24.

Tickets for the 2019 World Championship of Ping Pong are available now priced at £17.50 per session for adults and £11 for children. Day tickets are priced £30, with concessions at £19 with season tickets priced £55 for adults and £35 for concessions.

Families can take advantage of the Family Season Ticket offer which is priced at £110 and gives admission to two adults and up to three children for all four sessions of play. Booking fees apply to all tickets.

The tournament will once again kick off with the double elimination group stage played over eight tables on Saturday afternoon (12:00-16:00). The knockout stage will commence on Saturday evening (17:30-2100) and continue on Sunday with another two sessions. The afternoon session will run from 12:00 until 15:30 before the evening session featuring the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final begins at 17:00, finishing at approximately 21:00.
